Automotive Engineering

The Automotive Division is the heart of the Motor Industry. Founded around 1919, it has a rich history of producing highly skilled graduates who contribute to the socio-economic and technological demands of the Automotive Industry locally and beyond.

Students enroll in January each year. National Certificate courses run for three years (apprenticeship model). Generic subjects include:

    Motor Mechanics

    Repair, service, and overhaul light & heavy vehicles. Core: Motor Vehicle Technology, Workshop Practice.

    Auto Electrics

    Electrical systems: charging, starting, alarms. Core: Auto Electrics Technology, Workshop Practice.

    Precision Machining

    Engine component machining: reboring, crankshaft grinding. Core: Precision Machining Technology.

    Diesel Plant Fitting

    Hydraulic & pneumatic systems for mining equipment. Core: Diesel Plant Fitting Technology.

    MV Body Repairs

    Panel beating, painting, upholstery, chassis alignment. Core: Body Repair Technology.

    Motorcycle Mechanics

    Two-stroke engines, boat engines, generators. Core: Motorcycle Mechanics Technology.

    Innovation & Industry

    Auto-Gas Project Partnership with THLD The division has developed a petrol-to-gas conversion technology, now serving many motorists.

    Graduates are employed by top companies: DELTA, Croco Motors, Toyota Zimbabwe, ZIMOCO, CMED, and many more.

    Diploma & Higher National Diploma

    National Diploma (2 years part-time): Subjects include Strength of Materials, Automotive Electronics, Thermofluids, Research Project.

    Higher National Diploma (1 year): CAD/CAM, Vehicle Dynamics, Electronics & Control, Project.

    Mechanical & Production Engineering

    The division produces highly skilled and competent graduates in technical education. It comprises two departments focusing on teaching modern technology, working closely with industry and community to enhance technical and entrepreneurial skills.

    Head of Division

    PrEng. Malven Takaidza – Master of Technology in Machine Design, B-Tech Industrial & Manufacturing, HND Mechanical, ND Plant Engineering, FETC, Class 1 Fitter Machinist. Member of ZIE, ECZ, NAMACO, registered National Trade Testing Officer. 19+ years industrial and lecturing experience (Willowvale Mazda). Research interests: machine design, automotive engineering.

    Civil Engineering

    Established in 1971, the Civil Engineering Division (formerly Civil Engineering and Building) has been training technicians and technologists for the built environment. Our aim is to solve infrastructure problems by providing strong, stable and sustainable solutions.

    Civil Engineering

    NC (1 yr), ND (2 yrs), HND. Structural, geotechnical, transport, water engineering.

    Quantity Surveying

    Surveying & Geomatics

    Electrical Engineering

    Founded in 1919, the department began as electrician's courses. Today it trains artisans, technicians and technologists in Electrical Power, Instrumentation, Communication and Computer Systems. Discipline and safety are paramount.

    Client Charter

    The division undertakes to respond to applications within a month, provide course details 3 months before commencement, deliver lectures as per timetable, assess students thrice per term, maintain a conducive learning environment, and uphold a positive image.

    Construction Engineering

    One of the oldest departments in the country, producing over 200 skilled graduates annually. We combine intensive practical knowledge with theory, ensuring students acquire cutting‑edge skills aligned with global construction standards.

    Building Technology (NC)

    Bricklaying, blocklaying, wall finishing. 1 yr theory + 1 yr OJET. Entry: 5 O’s inc English, Maths, Science.

    Plumbing & Drain Laying (NC)

    1 yr + OJET. Entry: 5 O’s. Encourages female enrolment.

    Carpentry & Joinery (NC)

    1 yr + OJET. Entry: English, Maths + 3 others.

    Painting & Decorating (NC)

    1 yr + OJET. Entry: English, Maths + 3 others.

    Construction Technology (ND)

    2 yrs part‑time + OJET. Entry: NC in any Construction course + 5 O’s.

    Construction Engineering (HND)

    1 yr part‑time. Entry: ND Construction Technology or equivalent.

    Public‑Private Partnerships

    Partnership with Bindura University for workshop construction and gym repairs.

    Income Generation

    Short courses in Plumbing, Carpentry, Building, Painting; construction and renovation of college facilities (clinic, guardroom, gym, water purification plant, United College of Education painting, etc.).
