The examinations department has several major functions which include coordinating, managing, receiving and storing examinations materials. It is the duty of the polytechnic to hold examinations to fulfil the requisite qualifications or conditions. Qualifications in the technical fields, in particular, were awarded by the City and Guilds of London Institute. According to the Rhodesian Report on Education for the year ended 31st December, the Republic of South Africa also awarded technical qualifications to Rhodesians. It is, important to note that the City and Guilds of London Institute examination results revealed that block release was a good mode in Rhodesia. As of now the Higher Education Examination Council (HEXCO) is now awarding qualifications. The examinations department has to prepare schedules of examinations and to distribute stationery to the concerned centres and distribution of question papers. Practical examinations, mark lists are forwarded to the examination department. They also have the task of manning the institutional database. Not only does the department play a role in the processing of transcripts of examination results, distribution of certificates but also attend to all queries concerning examinations. The department also prepares and publish the schedule of examinations, conduct of examinations to get performance of candidates at the examinations properly assessed and timely declaration of results. The examinations department monitors compliance with all university rules and regulations on conduct of examinations.
