The polytechnic accounting section offers accounting services and administers institutional finances. Its main duties include recording accounts, paying bills, billing clients and customers, managing payroll and expenditures. The accounts department has an obligation of invoicing polytechnic students and receipting. Not only is the department responsible for attending queries from other departments of the institution but, also clearing of students. Payroll is a critical function of the accounting department and includes making sure all employees are paid accurately and timely. This includes authorising payments on internet banking, certifying and processing salaries and allowances payments. The department is also involved in preparing financial statements and reporting. Financial reports that can be used for budgeting, forecasting and other decision making processes. In addition, these and other reports are needed for communication. The department also sits in the finance and procurement committees.
