The course is designed to develop an artisan with knowledge, skills and attitudes to competently practice fitting including machining in the Mechanical industry. Machineshop Engineering students are trained to manufacture machine components using both traditional and non-traditional machining methods using different types of materials as well as repair, service and overhaul different types of industrial equipment and machinery, including boilers and pumps. The total duration of the course is 1620 notional hours spread over a period of two (2) years and one (1) year On the Job Education and Training (OJET). The course will consider gender mainstreaming, sustainable development, physical challenges, health dispositions and the intersections between race, class and culture. It shall embrace innovative heritage-based education and training philosophy to solve national problems and to produce goods and services for industrialization and modernization. Trainees are equipped with hands-on skills and are prepared to undergo trade testing for Class One (1) Skilled Worker Qualification (journeyman card) on completion of the course. This qualification empowers them to be employable in the Mechanical and Production Industry as well as start their own companies.
