Precision Machining
Precision Machining students repair and machine and re-engineer worn or damaged engine components and parts. They specialize in connecting rods, standardizing, reboring engine blocks, line-boring blocks, cylinder-head reconditioning, crankshaft machining and turning and milling of any engine part. Trainees are equipped with hands-on skills and are prepared to undergo trade testing for a Class One (1) Skilled Worker Qualification (journeyman card) on completion of the course. This qualification empowers them to be employable in the Automotive Industry and to start their own companies.
In addition to the eight generic subjects listed above, the following core subjects are taught in Precision Machining;
- Precision Machining Technology
- Precision Machining Workshop Practice and Processes
Proficiency areas and income generation activities
Precision Machinists are expected to show competence in the following skills proficiency areas. They also contribute to income generation activities.
- Engine Block machining and reconditioning
- Engine head machining and reconditioning
- Crankshaft grinding and machining
- Valve lapping and facing
Trade testing for precision machinists
Upon completing the National Certificate in Precision Machining studies, students will be eligible to register with the Manpower Trade Testing Department for Class One (1) Artisan Card (Journeyman).
