Motor Mechanics
Motor Mechanics students are trained to repair, service and overhaul both light and heavy vehicles, including tractors. They are equipped to repair and re-engineer all the systems of the vehicle which include the engine, braking system, transmission, steering, chassis and suspension system. Trainees are equipped with hands-on skills and are prepared to undergo trade testing for Class One (1) Skilled Worker Qualification (journeyman card) on completion of the course. This qualification empowers them to be employable in the Automotive Industry as well as start their own companies.
Proficiency areas and income generation activities
Motor Mechanics students engage in both skills proficiency and income generation projects in the following areas; • Fault diagnosis • Repairs and maintenance • Engines (complete overhaul or as necessary) • Braking systems • Suspension system and 3D wheel alignment • Steering systems • Transmission systems (both manual and automatic including final drives. In addition to the eight generic subjects listed above, the following core subjects are taught in Motor Mechanics; • Motor Vehicle Technology • Motor Mechanics Workshop Practice and Processes Trade testing for motor mechanics Upon attainment of a National Certificate in Motor Mechanics, students will be eligible to register for the Manpower Trade Testing Department for Class One (1) Artisan Card (Journeyman).
